A Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is required when applying for an SSL certificate. Follow these steps in cPanel 11 to create one:
Step 1: Create a Private Key
- Log in to your cPanel account.
- Navigate to SSL/TLS Manager under the Security section.
- Select Generate, view, upload, or delete your private keys.
- In the Generate a New Key section, choose your domain name from the dropdown or type it manually.
- Set the key length to 2048 bits.
- Click Generate.
- Return to the SSL Manager, then click Go Back to return to the main SSL/TLS Manager page.
Step 2: Generate the CSR
- Select Generate, view, or delete SSL certificate signing requests.
- Fill in the required details:
- Host (Common Name): Fully qualified domain name.
- Country: Two‑letter code (e.g., US).
- State/Province: Spell out completely (e.g., California).
- City: Registered city of your organization.
- Company Name: Enter the full name. Avoid symbols like &, @ — spell them out instead.
- Division/Department: Example: IT Department.
- Email: Only if required by your cPanel version.
- Pass Phrase: Enter your private key passphrase.
- Click Generate.
- Go back to the SSL Manager.
- Submit the CSR during your SSL enrollment process.
Important Notes
- Once your CSR is issued, follow installation instructions provided with your certificate.
- If your CSR or private key is lost or compromised, generate a new CSR and request a certificate re‑issue.
