Moving your addon domain to a new hosting account doesn’t have to be tricky. Follow these simple steps to safely transfer your website, emails, and databases from your old hosting to your new account.
Step 1: Backup Your Website Files
- Log in to your old hosting account.
- Go to File Manager and open the public_html folder.
- Find the folder for your addon domain, compress it (ZIP), and download it to your computer.
This ensures you have a full copy of your site before making any changes.
Step 2: Backup Emails
If your addon domain has email accounts:
- In File Manager, open the mail folder. Compress the addon domain folder and download it.
2. Then open the etc folder, compress the addon domain folder, and download it too.
These steps make sure all your emails and settings are safe.
Step 3: Backup Databases
- Log in to phpMyAdmin in your old hosting account.
- Select each database for your addon domain and click Export.
- Save the SQL files to your computer.
Make sure your primary domain is no longer pointing to the old hosting before moving forward.

Step 4: Upload Website and Email Files
- Log in to your new hosting account.
- Add the domain as an Addon Domain in cPanel.
- Open File Manager → public_html, upload the public_html backup ZIP, and extract it into the addon domain folder.
- Do the same for the mail and etc folders.
Set folder permissions:
- public_html: 0750
- mail: 0751
- etc: 0750
Check your Email Accounts in cPanel to confirm all emails are visible. If anything is missing, open a support ticket for assistance.
Step 5: Restore Databases
- Create a new database, user, and password for the addon domain.
- Update your website configuration files with these new database credentials.
- Open phpMyAdmin, select the database, click Import, and upload the SQL files from your computer.
Once imported, double-check that all tables are present and everything is working as expected.
With this, your addon domain is fully migrated and ready to go on your new hosting account!
