I would like to use this medium to apologize for the downtime you experienced last Friday and provide some information on the matter. Sometime around 11AM on Friday, an emergency maintenance was carried out at our data center at Provo, Utah in the United States. Since this was an emergency maintenance, we were only informed about it when it had already started and this should have been completed without any incidence. Unfortunately, during this maintenance, there was a major hardware failure with some of the connecting routers that cascaded to other hardware in the data center, leading to loss in connectivity.
This loss in connectivity eventually led to all our servers becoming inaccessible even though they were not actually down. Since our site was also inaccessible, we could not inform you of the situation via mail, but had to keep you updated of the issue via our Twitter handle @whogohost and on our Facebook page http://fb.com/WhoGoHost. This unprecedented issue was so bad that hosting giants such as HostGator, BlueHost and HostMonster were affected by this downtime (you may read more about this via http://goo.gl/ChFbWF), which led to millions of sites all over the world going down. The issue was eventually sorted out in the early hours of Saturday morning, and we kept posting updates on this matter on our social media channels until the problem was resolved (you may also read http://enduranceresponse.com/ for more information about this downtime).
We understand the importance of your sites being online at all times, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this unprecedented downtime may have caused you.
