Violating rights to third parties, names and activities against the laws of the United States and the usTLD Administrator is prohibited. 

Any individual or business is eligible to register the  .US domain extension.

The minimum domain period to register the .US domain name extension is 1 year

For .us, the domains are registered  immediately.

A .US extension has to be renewed within 30 days after its expiration date, if not it will enter its redemption period of 45 days .  After its redemption period has expired, the domain will be deleted and open to the public for re-registration as a new domain name.

Domain Names must:

• have minimum of 3 and a maximum of 63 characters;
• begin with a letter or a number and end with a letter or a number;
• use the English character set and may contain letters (i.e., a-z, A-Z), numbers (i.e. 0-9) and dashes (-) or a combination of these;
• neither begin with nor end with a dash;
• not contain a dash in the third and fourth positions (e.g. www.ab- -cd.us); and
• not include a space (e.g. www.ab cd.us).

The US domain name registry is operated by Neustar. All US domain names are registered through them. The United States Department of Commerce oversees the management of .us domain registry.
