.LAW Eligibility Criteria

.LAW is a restricted Top Level Domain (TLD) that aims to promote trust in the professional legal community by creating exclusive online spaces in which lawyers that are regulated to practice law.

Owing to the fact that the .LAW extension is a restricted TLD, anybody that plans to register the extension MUST ensure that that they do not use a registrar proxy or a privacy service for the registration. Providing false information may lead to the deletion of your registration with no refund given.

It is also essential to note that in order to register the .LAW extension and continue to be a registrant of the .LAW domain, the registrant must be a Lawyer (a Qualified one) or an authorized legal institution. To explain this, a Qualified lawyer is a lawyer that has been approved to practice law in a given area or jurisdiction by a generally accepted and approved body. 

Such approved body must have with them records to prove that such an individual is, in fact, a Qualified lawyer as the individual has stated.  The .LAW registry will also engage a third party entity which will be the Validation company, the essence of this is to validate the person registering the .LAW extension. This validation may come up every subsequent year. 

If the registry is unable to verify the lawyer's claims after going through the necessary routes, the application is rejected and the payment already made for this registration is "non-refundable"

Any individual or a company or a legal entity is eligible to register this extension.

The minimum term for .law domain names is 1 year.

The domain registration timeframe for .law  during general availability is 2 Weeks.

Domain Names must:

• have minimum of 1 and a maximum of 63 characters;
• begin with a letter or a number and end with a letter or a number;
• use the English character set and may contain letters (i.e., a-z, A-Z),numbers (i.e. 0-9) and dashes (-) or a combination of these;
• neither begin with, nor end with a dash;
• not contain a dash in the third and fourth positions (e.g. www.ab- -cd.law); and
• not include a space (e.g. www.ab cd.law).
